Hello Summer time!
Hello family,
We have exciting news at KSAH. Our long-term vets, Dr Emma Sharples and Dr Natalie Jones are looking forward to welcoming their babies. We can’t wait to meet their little cherubs! They will be taking a break from KSAH for 2018, and will see you again in 2019.
In the meantime, we are happy to introduce an amazing vet, Dr Genevieve Chua. She, together with our team at KSAH, will be looking after your fur-babies in the new year. She's very keen to meet you and get to know your family. You will soon see a sneak peek of her profile on our Facebook page.
As the weather warms up, and the holiday season looms near, it’s a time when we indulge in lots of delicious food. Sadly, this means that at KSAH, we are often very busy with sick pets who have eaten things they shouldn’t have – pet insurance is very handy at such times. While we strongly recommend pet insurance, we hope you will never need to use it!
Wishing you and your family a safe and Happy Christmas, and a very Healthy New Year for 2018.

Puppies! Kittens! The very words make you smile and even the toughest of hearts melt a little. We know pets bring so much joy and health benefits to our lives and for many this is the time of year when a new addition is planned. Here are some things to consider as you prepare to have your heart melted by that new furbaby.
Breed selection - what’s the best pet for you?
Choosing the best type of pet for your lifestyle is very important - we are more than happy to have a chat with you if you are thinking about becoming a pet parent especially if it’s your frst time! Some pets have fur, others scales or feathers - we can help match your lifestyle with the most suitable pet to complement how you like to live. All too often pets are surrendered to shelters because they don’t ft in with the lifestyle of their frst home but they may be a perfect ft for another family. Perhaps you might like to consider adopting a pet looking
for a forever home?
Worming, fleas and parasites - how to keep your pet safe
Pets need worming at regular intervals to be healthy and to reduce any risk of passing on parasites to your human family. Worming is very important for pregnant animals, puppies and kittens. We have safe, easy to use products and can demonstrate how to make worming easy for you and the little one. Flea bites can be irritating and cause lots of itching and scratching. Fleas also carry tapeworms so talk to us about the best, safest flea control for your puppy or kitten. Heartworm is a very different worm infecting our pets through mosquito bites. It’s often called the silent killer as signs don’t show up until severe damage has been done - thankfully we have reliable prevention, please give us a call for more information.
Vaccination and health check
When we frst get to meet your puppy or kitten not only will there be lots of pats and cuddles, we will also give your pet a very thorough health check. We will also vaccinate against several nasty diseases, discuss nutrition, parasites, puppy classes, training, pet insurance and much more. It’s also a great time to ask any questions you may have - feel free to jot them down.

Peace of mind with
Pet insurance We all hope it will never happen – that accident or unexpected illness but it pays to be prepared just in case. Pet insurance can be surprisingly affordable. These days modern medical advances for our pets give us as veterinarians amazing options to take care of your pets, but like all new technology there is an associated cost. Never let money stand in the way of what you want to do for your pet – make sure your pet is covered by pet insurance. A small monthly fee might save you a whole lot of heartbreak down the track. We know insurance can be a complex area so feel free to give us a call to discuss what the best option for you is. We advise all new pet owners to take out pet insurance as soon as they can – talk to us about pet insurance today. |
Share the love not the treats!
While sharing is normally caring, sharing too much this holiday season could put your pet at risk of gaining weight or have more dire consequences. Weight gain can put pets at risk of diabetes, heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure and arthritis.
Some fatty foods such as ham can cause a very painful condition called pancreatitis. This needs urgent veterinary attention or it can be fatal. Signs include a dog who won’t eat, vomits and has belly pain. Dogs like to scavenge through bins given the chance and can fnd BBQ fat drip trays or aluminium foil irresistible. It’s best to keep all scraps and bins out of the way of inquisitive pets.
If your pet is a little too cuddly, get in touch, as we can help with special diets designed to give all the nutrition your pet needs without them going hungry. Why not pop in with your pet for a quick pet weigh in on our specially designed scales?
Look for other ways to show your pet you love them - a belly rub, a play session, a scratch behind the ear or a snuggle together on the sofa can be just as satisfying without any extra calories.
Many delicious holiday treats for humans simply aren’t safe for our pets and some can be deadly. Be careful what presents you leave around - pets can chew through the strongest wrapping to get to chocolates.
Don’t risk ‘loving your pet to death’ these holidays - stick to our safe vet approved treats. Pop in to check our healthy pet treat options.

A friendly reminder for those planning on using kennels or catteries over the holidays.
You will need to have your pet’s vaccinations up to date and be able to supply a current, valid certifcate of vaccination for your pets to the boarding facility. If you can’t fnd your certifcate or can’t remember when your pet was last vaccinated, give us a call and we can check for you and let you know if you need to book an appointment for a booster. Depending on what is required your dog may not be able to be boarded in a kennel until at least a week after the vaccination has been administered by us. Please don’t delay – call us now. Also consider any extra long-term medications, e.g. for arthritis or anti-seizure medications, or veterinary ‘prescription’ diets that your pet may need. Please also pass on our contact details to the boarding facility. |
