Have you considered a rabbit as a pet? We look at how to take care of 'Easter bunnies'.

We also have some fabulous offers inside!

"Do you remember Bruce?

Bruce, the 53kg Staffy X (now 55kg due to restricted exercise- Cheeky! Cheeky!) recently visited KSAH for his repeat radiographs after his Modified Maquet Procedure (MMP) last month. These repeat radiographs are required to ensure that his knee is healing correctly after the MMP surgery.

We are happy to report Bruce's knee is healing in the correct position, and that he is comfortably using the leg. Whilst he still does have some exercise restriction, we are happy to say with each day healing continues, and he is on the right track to make a complete recovery.

If you would like further information regarding our MMP surgery for your pet, contact our staff on 9447 4644, for an appointment with our veterinarians."

At Karrinyup Small Animal Hospital, our staff are constantly expanding and developing their knowledge for your pet's treatment and care. Recently Dr Cindy Si, completed training for a new technique of Cruciate Ligament repair, called the Modified Maquet Procedure (MMP).

The MMP technique is based on an operation developed almost 50 years ago for use in humans by Dr Maquet. The operation redirects the force generated by the large quadriceps muscles to compensate for the failed Cruciate Ligament.

Numerous benefits of the MMP technique include,

  • the ability to be performed on larger dogs, whereas previous techniques were limited to smaller dogs.
  • The MMP surgery also has decreased pain during recovery, which means a shorter hospital stay, so your pets can come home sooner!

Dr Cindy Si performed our first MMP surgery with the guidance of Dr Menzies in August 2015 on one of our patient's Bruce, the 53kg Staffy X. Bruce was using his leg the very next day after the surgery was performed, although he was limited to only short, frequent walks during his recovery period. We are very happy with Bruce’s recovery and he continues to make great progress each week.

If you'd like further information regarding the MMP surgery for your pet, contact our staff on 9447 4644, for an appointment with our veterinarians.
